History of Domaine des Rochers

Le Domaine des Rochers is our home. It is a beautiful estate established nearly fifty years ago where, long before, olives, almonds and grapes grew on the terraced slopes and sheep were raised for wool which would be used in the local manufacture of cloth for the uniforms of Napoléon's armies. Today, it is a natural haven of peace and tranquility on the edge of a national forest with 3 Ha of wooded gardens incorporating the original terraces and offering extensive views over the local cliffs and mountains.

Some years ago we, Brian and Joan, decided to share this remarkable setting with holidaymakers looking for a combination of beauty, charm and local culture in a natural and unspoiled environment. Beyond the gates numerous footpaths and bridleways lead ramblers, mountain bikers and nature lovers through and beyong the forest with its myriad wild flowers and varied wild life. Les Rochers is an ideal place for lovers of peace and tranquillity; and yet it's within an easy drive of the wine growing villages and towns of Languedoc Roussillon and the Mediterranean Sea and much, much more in the touristic ambit. Les Rochers, named after the characterful limestone boulders which dot the landscape, is an elegant "maison de mâitre" with established gardens and an imposing setting. It comprises two apartments; one occupied full time by us and the other, a 2 bedroom unit known as Les Rochers Gîte, available for rent.
